Since August 21st, a total of 69 designs representing 18 countries and spanning six global regions have been competing for the most celebrated design prize on the planet – the INDEX: Award 2009 in the category Design to improve life.The selected designs concentrate on water shortages, air pollution, communication, health, environmental sustainability, games, affordable housing, food provision, micro-loans, insect protection and eradication, and much more. Friday, the winner of People’s Choice Award was announced. Jean Madden won the award for her Street Swags – a bed and a bag designed to provide more comfort, warmth and protection from weather for people living on the street. The winner received an “Egg” chair designed by Arne Jacobsen from Republic of Fritz Hansen™ who is the official sponsor of People’s Choice Award. See the award ceremony here.
